Patient Responsibility...minding the mind, nourishing the spirit

When life isn't going the way we'd like, whether the arena in question is our business, love-life, or our health, it is imperative that we do a self-check of our thoughts and attitude, as well as an assessment or our purpose/intention.

Is your mind in a positive and productive place, or are you allowing negative and unhealthy thoughts to produce unnecessary anger, frustration, fear, resentment, and depression? Are your actions in-line with your beliefs/ideals? Have you discovered and are you walking your chosen path, or are you allowing addictions, fear, and laziness to dictate how you live your life?

Good friends, loving family, and competent professionals have a purpose in our lives. An important part of that purpose is to let us know when we're out of balance; when we're straying from what is right..."holding up the mirror, so that we can see ourselves." Don't waste this by getting defensive and angry, but try being thankful that these people care enough about you to risk bruising your ego, or worse, damaging the relationship.

Your responsibility is to quiet the mind of negative and destructive thoughts, while focusing on love, peace, thankfulness, compassion, and health. This starts with finding value in yourself, then the door will open to healthy and productive relationships with others. Those who reject this premise often get lost in their search for a life without pain.

Dietary Transition
We live in a culture that is filled with obstacles to reaching and maintaining good health. We are taught that bigger and faster is better, using highly processed, low-nutrient foods that we further denature by cooking them in microwaves. Our over consumption is another troubling component, super-sizing us to poor health. These two aspects are best represented in fast food restaurants. The so-called food served at these moneymaking machines is high in bad fat and simple carbohydrates, and low in nutrition and energy. Think about the old adage: “You get what you pay for!” Why would anyone do this to their body?

Like many things in life that worthwhile, good health and proper diet take a fair degree of focus and effort, at least in the beginning. After learning some important principles, making efforts to change existing bad habits, embracing cleaner and fresher foods, and accepting the “growing pains” involved, you WILL feel better and BE Healthier.
Here is a simple list of suggestions to make your transition easier:

1) Recognize where you are rationalizing and stop it!

2) Make a list of healthy and clean sources of water and whole foods, including grass-fed bison & cattle that are free of hormones and antibiotics, fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, and organic, whole grains that are not genetically modified. (Talk to your grocers, Senators, and Representatives about your concerns and demand that these quality foods be available to you) You may not consider yourself much of an activist (I don’t consider myself much of one, either), but this might get you off your chair:
The large commercial farms that raise much of our meat, have been using growth hormone, antibiotics, and, get this, parts of animals, often parts of their own species in their feed! This cannibalistic practice is not only WRONG on so many spiritual levels, but is an unnatural diet that creates mutations and opens up the animals to disease. Scientists are linking these practices to CWD and other serious & contagious neurological diseases, like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, etc.

3) Plan a menu for at least 7 days. This will help you form your shopping list, as well as simplify your approach to food preparation.

4) Make a list of restaurants that have appropriate whole food choices, don’t use microwaves, and will prepare simple meals on-request. Talk to the Managers/Owners/Chefs about your desire for “clean” meat, fresh vegetables, filtered water, and natural, whole-grain breads, free of preservatives.

5) Be patient and persistent. Change takes a long time and often isn’t socially acceptable. It’s sad that so often, instead of support, those fighting for positive change are subject to ridicule. You may have to learn to say no, but there are so many positive choices out there, and the benefits are worth it.

Potential Stumbling Blocks
1) There may be a brief period of time, usually 2-3 days, but in a small percentage, 5-7 days, where a worsening of symptoms is experienced, or in some, old symptoms arise. Many Practitioners refer to this as a "detox reaction," which is explained as an increase of toxins back into the bloodstream before they are expelled from the body. Drinking lots of water, avoiding added stress, moderate exercise (light sweat followed by a "clean water" shower), and a positive mental outlook will allow most people to get through this period smoothly.

2) Rationalization and lack of commitment will infect some, allowing them to hold on to their addictions. These people are the ones who pat themselves on the back for doing something part way, but they stop progressing, and never complete their detoxification, and then they wonder why it never worked for them.
It is imperative to commit to doing these programs correctly, and completely, for a long enough period of time for optimal results. Depending on your chosen program, the lengths of time vary, but an average cleanse is 3 weeks. For some, it is recommended that they repeat a cleanse, or do a different cleanse. This is often the case with those who have a long list of complaints.

3) Don't treat this like a fad diet; something you'll do for a while before retreating back to old behaviors. This is a life-changing move that needs to be embraced and enjoyed. Find new foods/meals that you really like and create new menus/food lists. Read books, like "The Maker's Diet" by Dr. Jordan Rubin, "Healing with Whole Foods" by Paul Pitchford, and others, by Natural Health Practitioners such as Elson Haas, Joseph Mercola, and so on, finding what works for you by applying what you're learning, reading labels, and asking questions of people with more experience than you.
